D200 and IR
Dennis
Hi all, After initial posting at Clubsnap I did more testing of the D200.
It does not seems to like IR sad.gif
I could not get a WB set with IR filter on and also could not get get it to take a shot with IR, even at 30 sec the picture is still not usable. It seems like they have put in a very strong IR filter for this cam.
I am also not able to upload WB from D70 to D200 via software because the files are different.
Will continue to experiment and update if necessary but the future for D200 IR seems to be heading south.
Anybody getting this cam better keep the D70, still the best cam for IR IMHO.
Dennis
Some have reported can do IR with the D200.
See D200 IR
But some on the post say cannot set WB like my experience.
Will do further test as the last few days don't have very strong sunlight.
Today's sunlight seems good, later I maybe go find some snake and eat.... tongue.gif

The photo in the link looks good, eventhough it's soft (to be expected since it was shot at f/2.8), but 3 secs on a sunny day? blur0000.gif

Looks as though the IRC filter is really strong. icon_hun.gif They might be doing this to improve the blue and purple output of the camera.

I'll probably wait for Bjørn Rørslett's review on the D200 before making any major jumps http://www.naturfotograf.com/index2.html biggrin.gif

Cheers,

Matt

Aiyaaa, of course will buy, but oso want to know how responsive it is to IR. wink.gif

Now even with two bodies I still carry my filters for the D70s cause I sometimes enjoy doing color overlay IR that require a normal + IR photo. So if D200 is not too responsive then maybe carry 3 bodies 36_1_19.gif

According to the guys at LifePixel, it might be possible. They have the D200 listed on their site but it is greyed out.

There are rumors floating around though that the D200's AA/IRC filter is built onto the sensor, which would make removal difficult/impossible. Still keeping my fingers crossed huh.gif

A question can?
I believe you calibrated it against 50mm 1.8.
So how accurate is the autofocus when using other lenses?

TIA

Actually, I calibrated it with a 28-75mm f/2.8, since that is the lens that I use the most for shooting people.

When used with other lenses, the results are not as sharp as this lens (different lenses require slightly different amounts of compensation), but still very much better than when it wasn't calibrated. Also, if you are shooting landscape and your lens is stopped down modorately, any softness will not be evident.

Now, all I need to do is get off my butt and do the adjustments for manual focusing.

Cheers,

Matt
