swimming pool? u sure or not. wait the lifeguard chase u out...
actually i've struck my tripod into mud, rain, rivers, spring water before. no problem, just need to wash the legs after i got home. mine inside is not the brown brown thing that looks like paper, but a piece of black plastic so I think it's safe to do so (i think is telfon)

I took mine apart after 5 years of use, and some parts were very dirty, still have some sand paritcles stuck in the threads
Don't think you need to clean it up after every trip (unless it's extreme, and in sea/salt water) ...
