You did not mention what he was shooting and in what environment with that WB setting.

WB can be set with various things, depending on what you're shooting and in different lighting environment.

Grey Card, Coffee filters, White paper, etc.

For you I recommend THIS

Yes, yes! Highly recommended.

I've got the 77mm model. If only they had the 82mm model back when I bought the 77. 36_1_38.gif

What is written there I think is self explanatory.

Get accurate color in difficult lighting situations with the patented ExpoDisc white balance filter. Simply read and set white balance with the ExpoDisc in place before shooting and you’ll reduce or eliminate the need for post-capture color adjustments. Get the white balance solution that is quickly becoming the preferred method of achieving accurate color balance for professional and serious photographers today.

* Fine tune color at point of capture
* Works in mixed, or difficult lighting conditions
* Replaces your gray and white cards
* Spend more time shooting and less on workflow
* It’s convenient, fast and easy-to-use

With the Expodisc over the lens and IR filter, you can practically point anywhere you want for Custom White Balance and it would still be accurate. Of course, you shouldn't do it in a dark room. I usually just point it at any convenient source of light eg. the sun, the sky, the distant horizon, etc if I need to do CWB for IR shoot.

I think the person is not doing CWB for IR. CWB for white.
Example (done before), in warm light condition in my living hall, I do a CWB on white under warm light, so when taking picture (without flash), the white is not orangy, but white. Hope you know what I'm talking about tongue.gif
