Orchard Street Shots

Just a few street shots taken in Orchard Road area yesterday afternoon. Not very good weather unfortunately as it was cloudy and drizzling at the time.

You're really at a great advantage using a mod camera to shoot IR being able to freeze actions.

Have always enjoyed looking at your works, so much to learn in terms of compositions.

Thanks for sharing.

Before looking at teerex comments, that's what in my mind... tongue.gif

Great advantage...can take anytime you want and no worry of long exposure.

Great work!

Hi tomcat,

I am envious of your modded camera.

I like the way the fast shutter speed has managed to freeze the guy sitting on the bench seat in pix #2 haha0000.gif

Nice shots... I bet it has opened up a whole new world for you !.

Cheers smile.gif

Ha Ha... even the 20D can freeze the motion of that guy haha0000.gif

The modded camera has indeed make IR photography more spontaneous for me. I used to have second and third thoughts about going out to shoot IR because of all the gears that I have to bring along. Now I just shoot whenever I feel like it. Hence the avalanche of IR pics from me recently.

But this camera is still not as good as a modded DSLR like the D70 of deadpixel. The CCD of the D70 must be so much more sensitive than that of my Sony P200 judging from the shutter speeds of the shots he posted. I really envy those of you with D70s as you can now get them modded at minimal costs now that Matthew has learned how to do it.

Apart from the size, the only advantages P200 has over a DSLR is the tremendous DOF eg. the Orchard street pics are all shot at f/2.8, and the ability to shoot IR video clips.

Hmm, Maybe can setup a stall in Orchard Rd, "S$10 for an IR portrait shot" dribble0.gif

Tomcat, could you get more portrait shots? Look eerie but nice biggrin.gif

The skin tone in IR portraits actually looks better than normal portrait shots for uneven skin toes and blemishes don't seem to show up under IR as they appear to have the same IR reflectance as normal skin. Hence, no need for make-up... especially good for guys wink.gif

I would like to do more portraits but need to find nice looking models first. Unfortunately, like normal photography, IR photography can't work miracles if model is not photogenic, like me for example sad.gif
Any volunteers to be models ? biggrin.gif

Hi tomcat,

Have you found any models yet ?

I am shure there are many out there just waiting to be shot in IR.

As a thought.... have you any friends or such that are getting married and have their photographer worked out but wouldn't mind an extra ?

How would an entire wedding in IR come out ???

Cheers smile.gif

Only managed to sneak a couple of bridal shots at somebody's outdoor shoot at Labrador Park. Posted in the Landscapes & Cityscapes section. Have you seen them?

Hi, I am confused. I thought in order to take IR photo, it required very long expose time and very bright sunlight. But... that is not what I notice. How was it done? What is a Mod Camera? How come you can take picture of moving people and yet they don't appear as blur? Please do advise me. What IR filter are you using BTW? Any idea if my camera Pro815 camera can do that? Mine can only reach ISO 400 as stated in http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sams...sung_pro815.asp . Pls advise.

Thanks

For most of the DCs, a filter called a hot mirror is used to block most of the IR from the camera ccd. As IR would degrade the quality of "normal" photos.
A modded DC refers to the removal of the AA filter (usually the hot mirror is combined with the AA filter, which is the anti aliasing filter).
Without the hot mirror, the shutter speed would be much faster when taking IR photos smile.gif

Another way of modding a DC would be to replace the AA/hotmirror filter with an IR filter. For a consumer DC, not much advantage. But for a DSLR, u would be able to preview the scene in the viewfinder as the IR filter would not be blocking the lens.

Hope this explains.....

O no. Not the hot mirror again. wallbash.gif I presume my Pro815 has one inside. Camera maker are kind enough to place the mirror in camera but they never consider whether we want to take IR pictures or not. Mod camera means Modify Camera I guess since you put it that way. Is Pro815 a consumer DC? But mine can preview scenes in the view finder. Does that help? blur0000.gif And does it help if I get a IR filter now? Guess I have to get a filter to test and see it for myself. But if it works, then, does that mean I lack the hot mirror? Hmm. ... SO complex. ppth0000.gif

I notice most post are of June 2005. Hardly anyone tour this url. Any idea who own this irphotography? Was it you? Hmm. ph34r.gif

Hey thanks. But, I'm not sure I will want my camera to be broken up. I just bought the camera for less than 2 months. I'm not even sure if there is a hot mirror in it or not but mine is not consider by many as a DSLR but rather a Advance camera of Samsung as its len is fix to the base. During auto focus, a red beam will shine to read and adjust setting. I notice if loko closer pointing it to a wall, the beam light contain some shadow like dust. I dare not even send to Samsung for removal as it is a small problem. But thanks. I will get the filter instead. Even without hot mirror, you also need to have a filter to block light. And problem with mine is expose time is rather slow. So, I don't know how.. Very confused and .. maybe I should just give up and take it like normal camera. Sigh... wallbash.gif
