IR Portrait
tomcat
My first attempt at a simple IR head shot.

(IMG:http://www.pbase.com/pschia/image/47275773.jpg)

Looked almost B&W with some brown tint in the hair and the iris of the eyes after channel swapping. IR does seems to 'hide' blemishes in the skin that would otherwise show up in normal photography.

Hi tomcat,

Self portrait ...... ?

Nice shot !.... Yes it does look as if B&W

Very majestic, if that is good way to explain.

Care to share how the photo was taken ?

Cheers ,Panlo:)

Hi Pablo,

That's not a self-portrait lah.
I'm not photogenic at all. Always try to avoid taking photos of myself sad.gif

There's no technique to speak of actually. I just snapped off the shot along the corridors of my apartment using natural light and fill-flash. I wasn't really aiming to do a very technical portrait shot. I don't have much experience at human portraiture photography anyway. I just wanted to see what human hair, skin and eyes look like in IR photos. I really like the way the skin seems to glow in IR photos. Would love to try some wedding shots next if there's opportunity. tongue.gif

Hi tomcat.....

I was joking when I said, "self portrait" .... I didn't guess it was you hehehe

Good shot.....

I have only taken one person shot in IR so far and was not happy with my result. But I intend to try again.

I wasn't thinking of the photo I took as a portrait at the time which is probably why I didn't like the result.

After seeing your shot.... and I think one by ark19 ??? (correct me if I am wrong.... the guys in the boat ?)...

I must try it seriously..

Cheers smile.gif

'the guys in the boat' shots are mine too I believe... in the 'dragonboating fun' thread here?
Pablo
Hi tomcat,

Ahh yes. That is the photo I was refering to "'dragonboating fun".... yes, sorry about the mistake of by whom.

Nice photo's I might add.

Cheers.

P.S.
On the subject of cats....
One of my cats...Tabatha... I would see her sitting on the window sill as I pulled up from work; when I entered my unit she would be there to greet me as I opened the door.
I would go strait to my lounge and sit down and she would sit next to me.
We would talk about our day (I would actually) and when there was no more to say, she would get up and disappear for an hour or two.

This would happen every day without fail.

hey tomcat, did you shoot this with your 20D? what about the light? was it just daylight?

Hi Teddy,

I did not use the 20D for this shot. It would probably be impossible to shoot portraits with an unmodified 20D given the long exposure times required.

I had used a Sony DSC-P200 which was modified to shoot IR for this shot. It was taken using available daylight with fill-in flash from the camera's built-in flash.
